This is the first thing I’ve written on this site for a little over a year.
Well, that’s not strictly true, I have been updating the reports on how my Marie Curie fellowship is going as well as my publication list. But that’s not really important in the grand scheme of things.
For the entire year I haven’t felt like writing something about bad science in Hollywood movies for the simple reason that I don’t find it to be important right now. There are other more important things on everyone’s mind and a top 10 list of the worst science in Michael Bay’s Armageddon could not climb high enough on my priority list to get it written. (But I’ll still publish it sometime soon).
I originally built this platform so that I could practice writing about science in hopes of some people finding it interesting and maybe even learn something. During this absolute disaster of a year I haven’t really felt like it and not had the interest to make time for it.
I love to rant about science but not when systematic racism and the complete incompetence of our so-called “leaders” to protect their voters become so painfully blatant that your misanthropy and disdain for the self-entitled and self-serving ruling (billionaire) class becomes such a bottomless pit that all your efforts need to be spent on ensuring your own mental and physical health do not disintegrate.
In 2020 I’ve had to do a lot of work on my own mental health. With the help of medication and consistent therapy sessions, meditations and journalling, I don’t think I’ve ever been in a better place mentally.
The world needs help. I want to help it. But to make a positive change outward I needed to make positive changes inward. I think I’m ready to face a new decade now.
